Negative Space Homework
My homework was to capture an image with a lot of negative space. Initially I thought that I'd have to go out in an open area to get this amount of negative space, but after some surfing the net for ideas I began to realise that if I got right up close to an object against a plane background, I could produce a high quality image which contains a huge amount of negative space without having to leave the comfort of my own home. after this it was just a matter of producing some ideas and putting them together to create my image.
I believe this photo turned out really well as for many reasons including:
1) The image has a good composition.
2) The blend of the background is really good (going from lighter at the bottom of the image to a darker, more blurred effect at the top)
3)the horizon line, nearer the top of the image, is level across the image. at first it was slightly of, but this was an easy fix with the help of Photoshop.
4) the colours used work really well together and nothing looks like it doesn't belong in the image.

The setup for this image was relatively simple and in a sense I basically create my very own studio on my desk, as you can see above.
to create this image I cleared some space and chose the desired pin colour. I then then stuck this into a plane white piece of paper and positioned it the right distance away from the wall. as I did this at night the low quality light made it almost impossible to get a good quality image with out a artificial light source. at first I tried my cameras built in flash but this just caused the image to be out of focus and it create a big shadow behind the subject which I did not want. I then thought to use my phones LED flash light which is a really bright and almost 'white'. This caused for a really good quality image and give a really nice shadow to the pin giving it a good contrast between big and small.
